Tampa Wedding Photos – Ray + Nadiah!

I knew immediately at Ray and Nadiah’s engagement session that their wedding was going to be a blast to photograph. Let’s start with the obvious. These two are simply put…stunning. Their personalities are equally as beautiful. The day began (and finished) at the Westin Harbour Island Hotel in Tampa. (I have a definite fondness for this hotel as Pete and I got married there 8 years ago.)

Every detail was accounted for, starting with fab custom stationery from Tie That Binds. After Nadiah and her bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done by Maria Zepeda and Ramona Torres, we headed to St.John’s Episcopal Church in Hyde Park for their beautiful ceremony.After the ceremony, we headed back to the Westin where the party was amazing. Every guest was dressed to the nines and ready to celebrate Ray and Nadiah’s nuptials in style! Jonathan A Cortez provided the most amazing vocal performances. Jackie Ross of Table 6 Productions made sure every detail was in place while Melina Forla of the Westin Harbour Island made sure the night was perfect! (and it was!) Events in Bloom created beautiful decor with their flowers. Inspire Entertainment created a beautiful ambiance with fab lighting (I am such a fan of uplighting!) It is no secret that I am also a big fan of sweets. Ok- a HUGE fan. And I knew the sweets would be abundant at this wedding. You see, Ray works for Ghiraredlli, so the cake (by A Piece of Cake) and the chocolate fountain (by Lous Chocolate Fountains) had some extra yumminess!

I will wrap this up with my favorite image of the evening. I just love how Ray and Nadiah are looking at each other, and I especially love the delicious light!Ray and Nadiah, thank you for choosing Andi Diamond Photography to capture this amazing day in the start of your new lives together! I am quite a bit behind on my diary entries (I tend to be a bit better on Facebook…too much viral marketing to keep up with now-a-days…..do I sound like my mother back in the days when CD’s came out??!) Anywho, I wanted to start back on the blogging train with one of my favorite shoots of the summer so far. The F family could not have been more enjoyable to photograph. We had their family portrait session in downtown Tampa. The kids completely rocked it out complete with tutu’s, Bono sunglasses, guitar, and all! I cannot wait to see the canvas cluster that we designed from this portrait session (so much so that I got a set for the studio as well!). ENJOY F family- I LOVED creating this for you!!

Tampa Family Portraits – Meet the J Family

Seriously….the J. family is always so polished and put together. It actually is not fair, and I guess I am a bit jealous- there I said it. Stomp, stomp. It probably has something to do with the fact that Jodi is the owner of Premier Concierge, a lifestyle management, planning and concierge service that provides work life balance assistance to clients in Tampa Bay and New York City. So yeah, she is always on top of her game, and Steven and the kids always appear to be, too. Oh, how I wish for such polish. Even in the blazing heat of Tampa’s summer, they don’t even appear to break a sweat. How is that possible? Check out their South Tampa photography session by Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club:

It seems like I was just photographing Sophia’s newborn portraits- and now she is going to be a big sister. And she cannot be more thrilled! Tampa Photography Session – Guys and Their Moms

I was both surprised and impressed when I got this call. Leighton and David’s mother will be celebrating her birthday soon, and the guys decided that the perfect gift for her would be a custom portrait of the both of them. OK, so for 2 twenty-something brothers to want to create this for their mom…yes, I was extremely impressed! They wanted a beautiful, classic piece of wall art that she could hang and cherish for years to come. So we decided to create the piece in my South Tamps studio to really be able to design for what they were hoping to capture. And honestly, these two made it easy!I hope when Ethan is a twenty-something that he thinks to do something like this for me! Applause to you Leighton and David, I am sure your mom will be thrilled! And thanks for letting me create this treasured artwork for her!

Take Better Pictures Tampa Workshop-Constructive Critique

Actually, I prefer to call it “constructive feedback” and not “critique” or “constructive criticism,” which has a horribly negative feel to it. The whole point of feedback is to learn and get better, not to criticize. So “constructive feedback” it is! Anywho, this is the homework of some of the “students” who attended my workshop, “Take Better Pictures of Your Children” at Art Explorers. And like good little students, they made sure to hand in their homework on time. To those who did not, 5 lashes with a wet noodle- ha! I enlisted the help of good friends and fellow professional photographers, Kelly Hite of Pure Sugar Studios in Jacksonville, Fl, Edie Black of Edie Black Photography in Signal Mountain, Tenn, and Robyn Osten of Life’s Little Celebrations in St. Louis, MO for some additional feedback and to help me in selecting a winner. Here is the homework and “CF” (I selected 1 or 2 of the best images that everyone turned in):I know you were finding it hard to capture Tristan, Beth, esp with a point and shoot camera. But I think you captured a sweet expression. I like your composition. I like how you tried to use window light to get some of that natural light that we discussed. One thing with photography, the object closest to the camera always tends to appear the largest (hence his ball looks HUGE and out of proportion with his head) (this happens with body parts, too!) I like this image better than the other your submitted with selective coloring (but kudos for trying some new setting in your camera). Robyn said, “Nice job with rule of thirds, and I even like how you shot half of your son’s face. The first image is a little soft (not super sharp) and a bit under exposed. I like the shallow depth of field in the second. A little soft as well”. Workshop attendees were told that for their homework they did not have to photograph their kids, especially because I asked them to try shooting in manual (which can be tricky with live “models” when you first start doing it (heck, it can be tricky with live “models” years after you start doing it- ha!) Edie said, “Great job really making your subject stand out. I really like the simplicity of the second image. Good exposure on both. Both have nice focus. Again the colors and simplicity of the second stand out the most to me. Nice job!”I see where you were going with this, Megan, and really think it was a great attempt. Love the colors- it all looks very cohesive. It is very underexposed (too dark), but it is in good focus and I like that she is not in the middle. Nice try! Kelly said “Great DOF (depth of field). I am a sucker for shallow DOF! And nice work with sharpness. My CF would be that they both are a little dark, but I like the catchlights in her eyes.” (remember that we spoke about catchlights???:) ) “They both have a very sweet spirit to them which I enjoy.” Robyn said, “Again, great composition with rule of thirds. The first is very underexposed but I know that can be tricky with bright spots on one part of the subject. I would suggest (if/when possible) moving the subject to more even lighting. The second is my favorite. Great light in her eyes and very nice backlighting on her hair. Great exposure.”Very sweet image, Nate. And yes, you did manage to get “catchlights” in her eyes. Your exposure is about 1/2 stop off (maybe a little more). Her eyes are sharper than you think (I know you were struggling with this). When I looked up close, her cheek just below her eye was pretty sharp so it might be that your focus point was not exactly in her eye. Very nice composition.

After looking at everyone’s homework and getting CF from my photog friends, the winner of the homework assignment and the complimentary studio session and $100 print credit goes to Jan (5th set of images with the adorable curly haired little girl.) Overall, I think everyone did a very good job and I am very proud. I hope I was able to teach you at least 1 thing about photography or help you improve at least a little bit. It can be very challenging and I know I am constantly learning new things and better ways to do things. I loved teaching the workshop and look forward to more. Trash the Dress – Camie and Bubba!

It’s all the rage. Everybody’s doing it. And let’s be honest….what bride does not want to put her wedding dress back on and play princess for the day? It’s the Trash the Dress portrait session, that I have affectionately dubbed “Haute and Hitched” (because my couples are ultra “haute”! ). Couples get to don their wedding day duds and hit the town for a very fashion-forward, commercial style shoot, capturing images that we usually don’t have the time to create on their wedding day. No, you don’t have to officially “trash” your dress (though I have had some brides jump in the ocean!).

Just like I had imagined at Camie and Bubba’s E-session, these two are a blast to photograph, and up for anything. Not only was their wedding beautiful, but their Haute and Hitched session was even more glam. Here are just a few of my faves: Camie and Bubba, it has been such a treat getting to know you both and capturing all of these moments for you. I wish you lived in Florida so I could continue to watch your relationship grow. You both compliment each other so well and it is a joy to be around you! Enjoy being newlyweds! xo Andi
