October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

1 in 8. That number is scary to me. Actually, that number is alarming to me. And that number is a reality to me. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, according to The American Cancer Society. My high school boyfriend’s mom was the first person I knew to be diagnosed with breast cancer, 2 types of breast cancer at one time. Shortly after I graduated from college, I got the call from my mom telling me that she had been diagnosed. A few years ago, my sister in law was diagnosed- and there have been dozens of other women, friends, co-workers, and clients who I have since learned have been diagnosed with this disease.

Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. (Centers For Disease Control and Prevention)

I am happy to report that my mom, sister in law, and all of the women in my life who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are doing fabulous, thanks to advances in medical research and the support of such organizations like the American Cancer Society and Susan G Komen, For the Cure.

The class is at 6:30pm and covers the basics of photography, including how to use a DSLR (though you don’t have to have a DSLR to attend the photography workshop). All mommies and daddies are invited, especially if you want to learn some tricks from the pros! One of the best things about being a photographer is that I get to capture and document the growth and development of my littlest clients. I get to watch them grown and change and turn into little people. When I first “met” Lily, it was at her mommy’s maternity portrait session, and then again at her newborn portrait session, and now she is sitting up on her own at this portrait session.Her big sister, Chloe just turned 4 and of course wanted to get in on the action!The girls were both so happy, it made my job easy. Just look at those cheeks!Special thanks to D’s Darling Designs for the fantastic wardrobe. Lily and Chloe’s closets are stocked full of her great designs! And I am pretty sure that their mommy brought their entire closet tot heir session.

Family Photography Session in Tampa – Life with Little Boys

Life as I would imagine it in the F. household is full of smiles, games, hugs, kisses, and maybe even some mischief (ok, definitely some mischief!). So I would expect the same thing when photographing 3 brothers under the age of 4. My little boy just turned 4 and I know what that entails- so I have to admit, I said a little prayer before I headed out to the University of Tampa in downtown South Tampa that day for my portrait session with Simon, Graham, and Luke. I took a deep breath, put on my game face, and went to work. As it turns out, I did not even need to rally because the boys were a cake walk- they really were! Whew! (I sighed a huge relief! ha!). Mother’s Day Mini Photo Sessions in Tampa!

I think all of us moms will agree that we would be happy to have a Mother’s Week or a Mother’s Month even!
