American Heart Association’s Heart Ball Gala

Andi Diamond Photography was honored to photograph the American Heart Association‘s Heart Ball Gala at A La Carte Pavillion in Tampa recently.   Their mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. That single purpose drives all they do.  The Heart Ball Gala was a huge black tie fund raiser, with News Channel 8′s Keith Cate at the evening’s MC.The silent and live auctions helped to raise thousands of dollars!

Music and entertainment provided by Buzzcatz, Event Show Productions, and Ray Gurka. If you would like information on the America Heart Association’s Tampa/St.Petersburg chapter, click HERE.  Special thanks to Buds, Blooms, and Beyond for the beautiful flowers, Bay Stage Lighting for the uplighting, Sweetbay Supermarkets, and Pepin Distributing for the in-kind donations.

Flashes of Hope

Last month I was blessed to be able to photograph several families with children with cancer for Flashes of Hope at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.  Flashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization that changes the way children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for pediatric cancer research.  Here is a slideshow with some of my favorite images from the day of these amazing children.

Thank you Flashes of Hope and all the wonderful volunteers who made that day possible.  Fellow photographers, I encourage you to check out this great organization and please give back to your community by sharing your talent with these families if you are able.  Have a wonderful 2011!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

1 in 8.  That number is scary to me.  Actually, that number is alarming to me.  And that number is a reality to me.  1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, according to The American Cancer Society.  My high school boyfriend’s mom was the first person I knew to be diagnosed with breast cancer, 2 types of breast cancer at one time.  Shortly after I graduated from college, I got the call from my mom telling me that she had been diagnosed.  A few years ago, my sister in law was diagnosed- and there have been dozens of other women, friends, co-workers, and clients who I have since learned have been diagnosed with this disease.

Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. (Centers For Disease Control and Prevention)

I am happy to report that my mom, sister in law, and all of the women in my life who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are doing fabulous,  thanks to advances in medical research and the support of such organizations like the American Cancer Society and Susan G Komen, For the Cure.

To celebrate breast cancer awareness month and breast cancer survivors, during October Andi Diamond Photography is offering complimentary studio mini sessions and a $250 print credit to women who are currently going through breast cancer treatment and their families.  If you are a women currently battling breast cancer, and want to celebrate your strength and beauty, please call the studio today at 813-503-5056 to schedule your session as our gift.  We want to celebrate you.  If you know of a women currently undergoing breast cancer treatment and you think custom family portraits might help her smile, please pass this along to her.
